FLOATING BRIDGE OPENING

PARTY ON THE WORLD'S LONGEST FLOATING BRIDGE

When you think about it, building the world's longest floating bridge is a remarkable feat of engineering. But how do you get people to think like that? A well designed public grand opening by The Workshop is what the Washington State Department of Transportation came up with.

It was a rare 62-degree, sunny winter day, with Mt Rainier looming large to the south. We were awestruck as over 100,000 Northwesterners walked, ran, and bused out to see what had been built. Families played with gigantic LEGO bridge models, snacked at food trucks, climbed on bigger-than-life construction machines, experimented with dozens and dozens of interactive displays, activities and demonstrations; all the time witnessing the effect of STEM education on modern bridge-building.

Ultimately, the DOT received statewide recognition for their accomplishment and even won a national communicators award for the event. A big success all around.
